Charcoal mixed with wood!

Just curious has anyone ever used straight charcoal in their wood box or mixed and matched for the flavor of charcoal .

Welcome back! It has been a long time since you posted. I did the mix of charcoal and wood once looking for the 'smoke ring'. Nothing. As for flavor, no difference. Everything was reduced to ash. But the test, I think is was a brisket, tasted the same as I always get with just hickory.
