Drains,

It might be better if you asked Steve of SI these questions. He is the person running the show, so to speak, and is in a better position to answer your questions regarding shipping.

Also, please read the FAQ regarding the temperature swings of the analog controller. I bring this up only because some folks were surprised by them, or being aware of them, were anticipating the need to purchase an Auber for more precise control over the temperature and planned for the purchase in advance or purchased the Auber shortly after receiving their smoker.

Sorry, Dave, I should have clarified my previous post.  Steve does not add anything to shipping when he includes "free" items.  The website is integrated with FedEx directly, and shipping is auto-calculated based solely on weight, size and destination.  So, accessories like a cover or rib hooks would make a negligible difference in shipping, if anything.

Thanks Tony. I sort of thought Steve would have had shipping costs locked in based upon a double boxed smoker of each model.

Weigh once, ship many times (a play on the measure twice, cut once).

Dave, one thing that impresses me the most about this company is its openness.  I don't think anyone will catch these guys trying to pull a fast-one on anybody, like trying to hide costs where folks don't expect it.  Ponder this - when have you ever seen a company throw a first-prototype new product out to the world for review, even if it fails?  Usually, the testing I posted on the electronic #2 would not have been until the model was very close to production (for most companies, I would guess).  That's not how these boys roll! ;D  Open discussion, reviews, ideas and exchange of information is highly encouraged.  It's like a "grass roots" effort to build the best smoker out there!  Fun to be part of it!
