Ok so just got my Model #1. So excited to get the initial seasoning finished that I misread the directions. So what happened was, I put foil over the blow hole instead of the smoke box. Realized at about hour two that I messed up cuz the sticky brown liquid collected on the top of the smoker. So, the seal or whatever they put on the steel is melted off and the area around the hole, about six inch area in circumference looks pretty bad. I worked in a bbq joint for ten years so the aesthetics don't bug me too much but my wife was iffy on getting this thing so I want it to look good.
Any advice on how to get the top of this thing back to looking decent? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea what you are referring to regarding a seal. Maybe new smokers come with a protective peel off film that protects the cabinet during shipping. My smoker is old and my memory not very sharp. But I don't recall any seals or film. Just styrofoam in the smoker holding the goodies and protecting them. Two suggestions: 1: Take photos (inside and outside) and post them here for the members to see and offer some help. 2: Calm down.

Yes it has a wax coating for scratch resistance, I believe. So it looks fine on top except for where the hot sludge stained and melted the coating. Smoked a London broil just as a test and got a perfect med rare with good flavor so I'm happy about that. Just hate that I messed up the top first thing.

Since the smoker is all stainless steel, you could try oven cleaner on the offending area and see if that helps. The 'sludge' is likely nothing more than the accumulation of smoke residue/creosote. Double check with Steve.

Windex may work since it is done recently. Otherwise like Old Sarge said, use oven cleaner. After using oven cleaner, spray and wipe with vinegar to neutralize the cleaner.
