  I have the #1 and for cold smoking Ibought a Smokemiester  I drilled a hole in the bottom ran 3/4 black pipe to the back with a union for quick disconnect (which allows me to still use my cover) I also have the cart and I now have the option to smoke either way. Ilive in a retirement community so minimal smoke is a must (talked with steve before I purchased the unit) along with the Auber could`t be happier.

Cool!  I'd love to see some pictures of your setup!  I've often thought that an external smoke generator would be ideal for cold smoking, and not hard to install.  More details, please!

I`ve sent two other posts don`t know where they went. I am new to posting I do have pixs will send as soon as i can figure it out. I don`t know if this is ok but if you go  to Smokemiester on Facebook you will see my post with one pix. I bought that one for the simplicity of it (no air pump) and the heat stays on the outside .I drilled the hole in the bottom back right corner let the 3/4" pipe stick up about 1/4 " I cover the bottom with foil as usual poke the hole in the foil drain and 3/4 then I cover the 3/4 hole with one of the little aluminum trays upside-down where I poked holes in the sides (not the top)  I hope this helps

I think I will be getting one of these to bolt to my old smoker. I like the low heat and high smoke output. 

I believe it could also be mounted to a heavy plywood "Door" to fit on my model #3.

I'm thinking leave the SI door open, place the plywood insert, set the latches and wrap with a couple of big bungee cords. quick and easy to add or remove without scaring my #3.

  I think I would be a little cautious with connecting the smoke mister to plywood. I go to local sheet metal shops for little projects I have and I find them very helpful. When I was doing my smokemiester project I had my SI#1 with me, I showed him my smoker(which he thought was very well made) told him what I wanted to do and he gave me the hole saw for free!!! Now how cool is that. I`m going to bring him some bacon.

I hope this will help a little the only thing I have changed is I replaced the elbow with a "T" and put a ball valve to drain the moisture (black rain) . I open it a few times during the smoke

Now are you using pellets or chips?  Also are you using lighter fluid or maybe crumpled news paper?

just pellets and a propane torch I`m at the Jersey shore so no altitude problem, my biggest is reducing my photos to put on website.

I cover the hole with a alum. pan poke holes in the side and cut a big notch in the front
