Help! Temp Dial Broken

Please help! I'm 1 day into a 3 day jerky smoke and I have a problem now. I was making jerky today and when I went to turn of the smoker, the dial popped off as I was turning it. Isn't the inside of the dial supposed to have a flat side (like the letter D) to fit over the piece coming up from the smoker? When I tried to put it back on and turn it, it kinda just turns around and the piece from the smoker doesn't seem to rotate much. I think the inside is stripped down to a circle. It's hard to see it in the picture but that's the best I could get.

Hopefully these pictures help make sense of my issue.

I emailed the company also.

Thanks for the potential help!

can you use a pair of pliers to get you though the weekend? then maybe see if they can send you a new dial part?

I'll give pliers a try but my concern is knowing what temp I have it set at

i have a 3d so no dials on mine but if the dial stops physically at it's lowest setting you might be able to gauge it from there or draw a line on the top of the shaft with a thin sharpie or something .. i would think that would at least get you close .. in the ballpark..

It looks like the flat side of the metal piece points towards the temp. At least pretty close. So I'm hoping that's accurate. I'm watching the temp and if it gets too high I'll dial it back a bit. Hope this works out.

The first batch of jerky didn't turn out great either, a little too dry. It took way less time than the last time I made jerky.
