Hey guys. New to the forums here. Been doing a lot of research for my next purchase of a smoker and it led me here. There is no doubt i'm going with a smokin it and undecided on the model, but that's for a different thread.

Otherwise i'm fairly new to the smoking game. Been smoking Kielbasa for years now but have been unhappy with inconsistent product and it led me to question my smoker. I currently am using a propane setup and looking to move away from it. Excited to learn a lot from everyone here and gain as much as I possibly can.

Welcome Dan.  I'm new around here as well but everyone's been great.  I purchased my 4D with the intent on making large batches of sausage.  I too was unhappy with the inconsistent temps/results of other cookers.  I have used my 4D several times and I can tell you this, it is very consistent.  The temp rarely gets off the set point and as you know that consistency is key in producing quality sausage. I will likely be doing 25 lbs of summer sausage this weekend and I cant wait to see how it goes.  From what I've seen so far I expect things to go well.

Hey Dan welcome to the group. Not sure if you've found the comparison chart in the link below, but it may help in deciding what model will meet your needs. I put this together when I was doing my research and ended up buying the 3D about a month ago. I've used it every weekend and a few times during the week and have loved the results.

Dan, welcome to the fold my friend! Although I cannot answer with 100 % certainty, I am fairly sure you'll need the Jerky Dryer. I am sure someone will be along soon to correct me if I am wrong or make me look like I know what I am talking about (rare that that's the case, lol)

Can't wait to see what SI smoker you end up with, you're gonna love it, that much I DO KNOW!! ;)

Dan, I did get the jerky dryer.  I haven't used it yet but from everything I read it's a must have for sausage and jerky.

Sorry I'm late to the party, Dan, but Welcome to Club Lazy Q!! 8)  Sounds like you figured it out pretty quick, anyways!  Absolutely fantastic choice!  You will love the 3D, and the jerky fan is mandatory on any model, if you intend to do sausage or jerky.  These things really retain moisture, so it takes the fan to remove it.

Yeah, the shipping hurts, but that's a big, heavy, box, and you'll get it quick!  It only hurts once.... a month from now, you'll never give it another thought.  Just so you know, too, Steve does not markup shipping; he charges you whatever FedEx says it is, nothing more.  Nature of the beast.

Let us know if you have any questions, and good to have you with us!!

Welcome from Texas Dan! I think I've smoked about everything but homemade sausage so I'll leave that to the professionals here on the forum and believe me there are some here. Just ask a question about it and you talk about information overload! These guys and gals are sharp and have helped me out many times before and I imagine they will have to in the future. That's what makes this forum the place to be because help is just a quick post away! Enjoy your #3, it's a beast! Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Dan - Your wife will understand the cost of the shipping when she helps you move the box (crate?) for unpacking.  And congrats on the smoker.  You are going to love it and the food it produces.
