Brand new 4D Wi-Fi pro erratic smoker temp readings

My third smoke on brand new 4D pro Wi-Fi. Everything was going great with 10 pounds of sausage in it and suddenly the smoker temp reading is super erratic. Smoker set to 150 and temp readings are fluctuating rapidly 110, 150, 155, 112, 123, 154, 122…. All in a matter of seconds and it is non stop. This is triggering a rapid response from the machine, turning it on and off full blast to zero. I turned it on and off 2 times and this did not fix it. Luckily the sausages were almost done so I just took them out and shut it down. I did take a video if what’s happening and sent to Steve but I can’t seem to post a video here. Anyone have any advice? I had big plans to smoke this weekend but I will abort and use my Kamado instead.

Steve should be ablate get you up and running. Were your first two smokes successful?

Oh the first 2 smokes were insanely good. Even this one was awesome. I’ll wait for steve to get back to me and go from there. I’m bummed and a little frustrated, given the investment and excitement to get this smoker, but I’m not worried about it and I can’t wait to get it back up and running. I absolutely love it so far.

fighterbotobi, I know you said you contacted Steve but please do so again ad send same information as a reminder.
Skelly, you will need to be more specific with your own observances when you contact Steve. He honors warranties and is a good guy. Be as thorough as possible.

Well.. I replaced the smoker thermometer first, after 2 uses. That didn’t work. Then they sent me a new control box. That didn’t work. Then a third thermometer that has some sort of sealant around it, with the thinking that moisture is getting into the probe somehow. I installed that last week, fired it up to 225 and then did a short low temp (70f) cold smoke and it seemed worked great. So I brined a bunch of fish and made 20 pounds of sausage today and guess what… 2 hours into the first cook and it has failed again. Smoker is set to 150 and the actual temp is 215, while the smoker thinks it is only 80 degrees. It’s bounces all over the place and the heating element just runs 100% because it thinks it is mmuch colder than it actually is. So… I guess I will see what Steve says. I ordered this smoker and accessories October 1 and I have used it successfully 3 times so far. I bought this after watching 2 guys and a cooler videos and getting in to sausage making. It seemed like this was the best option on the market. It does seem like a well built and great smoker, and I REALLY want it to work(!) but so far it’s not been a good experience for me at all. It’s essentially useless and just sits in my garage for the last 2 months replacing stuff and trying to get it to work. I have gotten really good at taking it apart though!
