Auber issues

I am using  a several years old Auber PID controller Wsd -1500h-w Wi-Fi on a model 3 smoker.

Current weather in the high 80s or above at my location. Smoker in the sun, auber in the shade

Even though set point on smoker is at 265, temp reported on smoker probe is never above 220 after not opening the door in 2 hours of smoking.

Meat probe temp reported on Auber seems accurate compared to an instant read thermometer when checked

Temp probe was cleaned before use as was the temp probe in the back of the smoker. The “thermostat” on the smoker is still in the system(not bypassed).  The temp knob on smoker is at 100.  I have swiped it up and down several times

Presumably the heating element either works or doesn’t. Yes?

What else is their to do to troubleshoot?

To my knowledge, I have not changed them in years and these previously worked, ie tempin smoker was that set on Auber

I had that happen right after re-wiring for my Auber, I was running between 210-220* max, but I figured out that it was
the 6ft HD extension cord I was using that caused it.

Several years ago when folks started to use the auber they discovered that to get it to regulate the temp of the smoker, one must max out the analog otherwise they fight with each other. See this post, esp comment from rickne:

Pretty much yes. The element is of tha calrod type and it can have hot and cold spots, relatively speaking. Some night, fire up the smoker with the wood box off.  Do you have a nice bright even glow? Also see this link for testing.  And, Steve has replacement elements for  purchase if out of warranty.

I have no idea if the Auber controller has the same settings as the Auber built Smokin-It controller on the 3DW...  That said, it's possible on the 3DW to set the output of the element to something less than 100%.  I actually keep it set at 80% because that helps prevent setting the wood on fire.  Anyway, if the stand-alone Auber has the same setting then make sure it's not set so low that it simply can't reach the set temperature.

Well it sounds like your element and analog control are fine.  The controller and the auber are fighting each other.  As in the link I sent earlier. where the analog is maxed out and the auber controlls all up to the max setting of the analog, I have no other ideas.  One thought is to do a search and hardwire the suber in and bybass the analog controller.

Auber dysfunction may be the answer.  May reset it and see if helps

If you get good smoked food with your analog SI smoker, I would shelve the Auber. But that is just me.
