1st time using #3D wifi off to a rough start

Hello All,
I got my new smoker yesterday! I prepped the smoker this morning to run the burn-in and the smoker trips my garage GFCI circuit, but works on a different circuit. update: I emailed customer support and they are sending a new heat element. great customer support!
Second problem is the app disconnects from the controller, 3 times now in the the last 5 hours, and the only way I can get it to work, again is to remove the device from the app, reset the WIFI on the controller by holding the set and back buttons for 10 seconds, and then re-pair. I know my network signal is strong on the 2.4Ghz as I have a InkBird wifi temp probe in the smoker working fine. So... My question is should I try to update the controller firmware, and if so could someone kindly forward the instructions?, or other advice?
Now I'm finally smoking 2 baby backs at 275 (higher temp because I'm in the weeds big time)! Thanks in advance!

Welcome David from SE Arizona. I cannot help you regarding wifi. I know some folks have had problems and others zero problems. As for gfci tripping, I run my smokers on a non-gfci circuit and never tripped a normal breaker.

While you have the hood up to change out the element, look for any loose connections or evidence of arcing which can occur on any appliance with loose wiring.

Hi -
I wanted to share my (frustrating) bit on the wifi gen 2 set up, in case someone else runs into the same issue.

My 3D is old and the Colorado sun/heat cooked the controller. I opted for the wifi version as a replacement. The included directions were not great but we got the smoker to work good enough without wifi.

Today, I needed to lower the controller temp and could not without the wifi set up.

I downloaded the app and although the unit seemed connected to my internet, the app wasn't controlling the unit. 2.4GHz is the only way that this controller will set-up. A mesh router that jumps from 2.4GHz to 5GHz also added to the frustrations. I set up a "guest" SSID and could adjust the controller finally.

The old controller worked fine, until it didn't, and I sort of wish I'd gotten a non-wifi version for my old grumpy self.

I am still loving my 3D and secretly hoping it will kick the bucket before I build an outdoor kitchen. For whatever reason, I'd like a bigger version.
