Model 2 on order

I'm new to the forum and just ordered the model 2 and it will be here Thursday , only problem is it's below zero here and need to go out and blow snow so it can be delivered. More than likely I will not use the smoker until spring. I also ordered a Thermoworks smoke. It will be a busy spring because I'm going to increase the size of my deck along with other projects. All my previous smoking has been done on a grill so looking forward to a real smoker. :)

Congrats and welcome to the family!  For what it's worth, the smoker will work fine in your weather conditions...  you just have to decide if you're up for it.  :)

I know it will work ok....but will I ? ... Just got in from blowing snow -2 below zero & 20 mph wind...that's enough for me.

Welcome Duke, from Western Canada.  We are just about same temp as you  and all caught up in snow dept.  Enjoy your smoker.

Congrats on the new smoker.  I hear you on the weather.  I’m in NY which doesn’t get as cold as some places others are from but if you ever want to build what could be a fairly low cost shelter and out of prying eyes try a small single wall poly greenhouse.  I happen to have one and moved my #3 inside it for the winter and have been smoking in there.  This morning it was 6 degrees outside..may have risen to 15 degrees with sun but 58 degrees inside the greenhouse.  Gota love solar heat.  Enjoy.

Hi Metrakay –  It's nothing fancy, my poly house is 14x16 constructed from form bent fencing pipe and heavy plastic.  I keep the smoker near the door.  To vent the smoke I keep the door cracked open a bit and when the smoke gets heavy I just open the door all the way.  I also leave a fan vent open on the far end from the door for a light cross draft which helps with smoke removal. - Tom

Nice set-up, Tom. I'd love to have a greenhouse. And I'd love to have a 58 degree place to smoke in during the winter!  Also a big if belated welcome to Duke.

Thanks, Tom. I’ve been trying to figure out ventilation alternatives because I don’t have cover in the back yard and front porch is not a safe place to leave anything.
