New smokin it member,  brining a whole turkey for thanksgiving following Lazy Q whole chicken steps.

How long should i Brine it for?  Sounds like a whole chicken is 3-4 hours? Do i need a lid or seal on the container that it is taking a bath in?

Any recommendations for rub?

If you want to add some spice to your brine , try adding a Zaterains Crab Boil seasoning pack to your brine . Always had good results with them.

I highly recommend using the water cooler as a brining tank...  https://www.smokinitforums.com/index.php?topic=7234.msg65663#msg65663

Larry - Thank you for the recommendation and link.  I hadn't seen that in the past.  In that link someone mentioned blocks of ice.  This may be obvious but I use a Home Depot bucket to make blocks of ice for fishing.  I chop the height so it's shorter and can slide into my freezer.  I also take a loop of rope knoted on one end and sink it into the water so that once frozen I have a handle to carry it.
