Is it normal for a small amount of smoke to leak from top of the door?

Hi, I have the #2 and was going to use it for the 2nd time - i was wondering if I could smoke baby backs for 4 hours but add some salmon after 2 hours - will I mess it up by opening it half way? Thanks
