Thermoworks

Any of you use a thermoworks thermometer? My maverick probe crapped out again and i am thinking about pull the trigger on a two probe kit.  The cost is about 150 all in but the quality is off the charts. I really like to see the smoker temperature. The meat probe is fine.

I started using the thermoworks unit about a year ago, the quality and precision is "IMO" much better than the maverick. I have the TW8060 and have several probes and I use it for everything. These units are a few more $$ but if you have a question or a problem there customer service is second to none.

If you are not sure which unit or probe might be the best for you give them a call there staff are more than happy to help.

I also have a  TW8060.  Love it!  High quality.  I also have an instant read from them that I use a lot.

I have several Thermoworks thermometers.
The TW8060 is an okay thermometer (when it works correctly)....if you don't need the dualness, alarm or the convenience of k-type probes I would definitely go with something else!!!
I did some investigating and found that the TW8060 is (I think) a cheap re-branded Chinese thermometer.
It sure resembles this thermometer in MANY ways......

Since the TW8060 is a bit of a battery hog and I've had some serious issues with mine....I can't, at this point, recommend it.

Now, the Thermapen is a different story......Highly recommended!!!!!!!

That looks exactly like the Tw8060 & is identified as 8060.  It looks like a knock off of the TW8060.  I have had mine about 3 years & replace batteries 1 or 2 times yearly.  The accuracy is great & monitors 2 temperatures well.  I don't use the alarms.

The k type probes are not proprietary so many manufacturers produce them.  I find the durability, expense & availability very good.

I use thermometers a lot...the batteries only last me a few days in the TW8060.
Unfortunately, I can't trust mine....which is EXTREMELY irritating!!!!!!!
I bought it in January.
I used it for a few days and noticed that it was reading incorrectly....I thought that perhaps the batteries were low, but the low battery icon didn't show up.
I put fresh batteries in it and sure enough, it was the batteries.
I put the low batteries back in....it read off and still no low battery icon.
This happened twice.
I called Thermoworks and they said to send it back...they'd evaluate it.
They left it on for about 80 hours straight to let the batteries run down...they said the low battery icon came on...no problem.
So...they sent it back...now I've got a thermometer that's fairly new that I don't quite trust.
No telling when it'll do it again.
That's not something I like to deal with when I need an accurate thermometer.

I ended up buying the tw 8060 high heat kit. It was $148 plus shipping. Paid for 2 day shipping.
I will provide a complete review and post to the gadget section. I mentioned i saw the kits on amazingribs.com.

I am excited to be able actually have the smoker temperature.

Stay tuned.

If you're going to use it a lot, you may find it worthwhile to invest in premium professional batteries like Duracell Procell. Regular batteries won't last long "50 hrs normal mode, 10 hours with continuous alarm."

Good luck!
