Power Light

This weekend I was starting my smoke at the lowest temperature setting. When I turned the knob, significantly under the 100 mark, the power light turned on. I thought, "great, the lower the better for right now." Then it turned off and didn't turn back on until I twisted closer to 110.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

Thanks!

The power light comes on when the element is on.  If temp got up to 100 and you turned it off and back on again, you would need to turn the knob past the current internal temperature of the smoking chamber.  When the temperature passes the setting on the knob it takes it up past that current set temp as referred to by us as swings in other posts.  Then the element turns off along with the light until it gets a certain temperature below the desired temp.  The element then comes back on to raise it to the desired set temp.

Nothing to worry about.

100 degrees isn't very hot inside the smoker box, so the element wouldn't have to be on long.  Charlie's right - light on, element on!
