Hi smoking it fans! I just did the conversion of my 4d to the new digital wifi controller.
I had no issues connecting to our wifi network and I love the ease of setting up with the app on my iphone.
I have done 1 smoke with 20# of snack sticks. It was a stepped program starting at 110 for drying and then gradually increasing up to 195.
I noted that with every step up it would overshoot the set temp by as much as 20 degrees. I did a test run empty the next day and it did the same.
I figured that since it wasn't installed at the factory, an auto tune was in order.
The best instructions I found were on this forum that called for a stepped program.
30 min @ 140
2 hrs @ 225
1 hr @ 140
I saw that after the 1st step the set time for step 1 was still showing 140. It did not jump to the set temp from step 2. I ended up changing the value for step 1 to 225 and it did start to increase the temp. I saw a video from Eric of 2 guy's and a cooler and he did not use a stepped program, he just set for 225. I did let the auto tune finish but the parameters were pretty far off the original. I decided to run another autotune without the steps. I let the smoker cool down to about 120 and started it up.
This time the numbers were even farther off. I figured that because the smoker was warm and was loaded with warm bricks it through it off.
I am going to let everything cool completely and try again.
I was hoping someone out there could share the numbers that work well for a #4? So far I have recorded the settings so I should be able to get back.
Thanks for any help or advise!
