Title: Weight & portability
Post by: Chris W on March 28, 2020, 10:16:24 AM
I am looking at the #2 because the #1 is just a little too small for what I need.  I have a cabin that is about an hour from my home. Is this unit light enough that two people could easily lift in and out of a pickup truck to transport?  Or is that not  recommended?   Thanks for any info.

Hi Chris welcome to the site. My Dad has a #2 and I can pick it up on my own, up and down from my car when I have used it the few times when I was cooking for a large party.

If you have another person helping, definitely going to be ok!

I can pick the my Cookshack SM008 (same size as #2) up by myself and carry it up the steps and across the deck without making my hernia worse. But for sure it is much easier to move on a cart or with a friend. I bought a #1 to use for camping and it is much more portable than the #2. And the #1 is A LOT smaller than the #2.
I would say that if you have to only carry it up a 50 ft driveway/walk and a few stairs that you would be fine with the #2.  Also the #2 will sit on most dollys and can be restrained with a rachet strap easily to make transport easy.
I gave my friend the Smokin Tex 1400 I had and built a transport dolly for him out of a filing cabinet and some 8 in wheels from Harbor Freight so he can move it from a storage shed in his back yard to the deck.

Agreed.  Two people could easily lift the #2 for transport.

Thanks everyone!  I just hit the order button.  I’m like a kid in a candy shop.    For years I used a stick burner that I still have and recently I bought a Masterbilt that lasted three weeks and they wouldn’t honor the warranty.   This seems to be a much better purchase.

Echo what everyone else has said.................i took order of a #2 three weeks ago and have moved it already a few times, the handles on the side make it a pretty easy move.  Fits in the back of the cab in a 1/2 truck easily.  Enjoy!
