Greetings from Houston
« on: September 03, 2019, 06:17:52 PM »
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Sean, from Houston. I just ordered a Model 1 and am excited to delve in. Any advice on best places to source meat? I have decent local butchers, and have eyeballed a few of the online markets (e.g. Snake River Farms?).

Welcome.

Crowd Cow is a great source. I’ve ordered many times from them. A nice selection of various farms and meats.

Enjoy the #1!

Welcome Sean!  Costco has always been a great source of meats for me.  It is one of the few places I can get Prime grade brisket.  I have also read that Sam’a Club is good as well.  I occasionally use a company called Gordon’s Food Service that services restaurant by also has stores.  It may only be regional, though you may have something similar.

H Sean, welcome to the family!  As others have said, the warehouse clubs tend to be good sources...  Sam's has a nice two pack of butts, full packer briskets, ribs, large pork loins, and more.  Grocery stores have been hit and miss for me...  could have just been dumb luck, but the worst brisket experience I've had is with one bought on sale at Kroger.

Welcome Sean from SE Arizona. If you local butcher has good prime beef, I would start there and have it cut the way you want it.  Lacking that option in my area, we buy our prime from Costco. Pork is much less of an issue.  Enjoy your smoker.
