Title: My First Mistake = maybe
Post by: old sarge on April 15, 2018, 06:13:41 PM
Put some Nathan's dogs on the grill for a quick lunch and ribs in the smoker.  Usual rub. Smoke started in about 12 minutes. Ate the dogs and the pups each got one. Just checked the time on the smoker. 2 hours and 50 minutes gone. And then it hit me:  I did not foil the bottom of the smoker or the wood box.  I might have a mess to clean up, but it will be worth it.

It's the kind of mistake that can convince a guy to quit foiling or at least ask oneself, "Why do I care if the floor of my smoker is clean?".  FWIW, I ask myself that question often but haven't made the mistake of forgetting to force me to make a decision change.

The resulting 'mess' was not as bad as I envisioned.  Still, it will be a small chore this coming weekend. And the ribs were very good.

The worst part would be the burnt juice on top of the smoke box!  That's one mistake I haven't made, luckily!

I forgot to foil the lid of the smoke box once. That was a mess to clean with the baked on drippings. For that reason, I don’t think I’d skip foiling the bottom of the smoker. But, we will see if I ever forget to.....either because I’ve really forgotten or due to a beverage or two......
