Title: Error Message -H-
Post by: welloffman on May 02, 2018, 01:16:08 AM
Hello all!
I have had an unusual error message on my 3D. The temperature readout works but the time/temperature probe readout shows -H-
I can smoke with it, but no reliable way to cook to desired temp or time. I am wondering if any folks out there have previously run into this issue, or if you are aware of what needs to be done to correct this issue.
It would also be nice if someone had document that showed all the possible errors that have occurred and the reasons/solution to the problem.
Thank you in advance for those that can help with this problem. I am looking forward to using my 3D the way it is supposed to be used.
I have not checked with the manufacturer yet. Maybe he is watching?

If cooking to temp make sure you have the probe plugged in when programming. The desired internal temp will be displayed.  When cooking for for internal temperature make sure that a lower case t is displayed. Cycle through the steps as per the instructions.

The -H- in the meat probe window indicates the probe plug is not being recognized by the controller.  It could be a loose connection or bad meat probe.  Start by tightening the fitting on the back of the meat probe and plugging it in securely.

Let me clarify a couple of things.  Super Dave is right about the H...It indicates the probe is either not attached, or is bad (not reading it).  This is often the connection, as stated.

When programming the controller, the probe does not have to be attached; it will program just fine.  It does, however, have to be attached when cooking to an internal temp.  If you do not have the probe attached, press the "Time" button and the right window will show the elapsed time vs the -H-.  When programming to trigger the changed by internal temp, you want the "F" displayed in the right window, not the lower-case "t"...that's to trigger time.

Hope this helps!  If you are sure the probe is attached well, and the connections are clean and tight, you may have a bad probe (it happens).  Contact Steve for a replacement.

According to the picture there is no probe attached. Then all you need to do is hit the "time" button on the controller.

Pretty sure this is in the instructions. Page 6.

Instructions??  Ha!  I always tell my wife instructions are for the unimaginative, but are also for the imaginative after about 3 failed tries!
