Going to all the trouble with a passport and traveling etc. I would go for the 2 (or the 3).

I am still on the fence but with the exchange on the dollar I have to pay 30% more. so it is a very costly purchase.  When the only thing I have smoked is some fish with my big chief, and tried to smoke Pork ribs in the Chief for 4 hrs at 160 then into a roaster on the BBQ for 3 hrs. Was Okay but lots of room for improvement.  I or We have never had home smoked meat before so I am hoping that we like it.   The deal maker is free shipping in the USA. so that saves $200.xx at  least or more.  We are less than 2 hrs from Orville Wash. where I hope to find a shipping address at, still have to find out about customs charges also.  Usually go to the States 4 or 5 times a year just bad timing on Passport renew. :( :(

UPS Stores reportedly offer a 'physical address' but you have to rent it.

Well I did some #'s and a #1    $350.xx
                                Cover         60.xx
                  1 bag of Hickory        16.xx
= $426 US and at to days $$ = $549.39 Canadian   Then I would still need a Maverick or???  Would like T shirt I will be 68 this summer so maybe I should just drive 2 hrs and eat at Montanas a couple times a month for Ribs.  I realize that a good smoker costs good money but costs add up so that is why a 1 is looking I might be able to get.  I forgot about  Canada customs and the cost of a UPS store in the US.  The worst part is my Credit card company wants 2.5% for doing this since it is a out of country even if I pay it off in full the same day.  Sorry for whining but still want a Smokin-it

Hank pull the trigger on either a #1 or 2 and you won't regret it. Pretty much a one time investment which should last for a long time bringing more enjoyment than the cost. It's more than just smoking a few times a year .... it actually becomes a craft due to the differences in woods, individual taste and personal refinements in smoke style techniques. It's many returns greater than the sum in the long run.

I will buy the #1 as that is all I can afford  but may not happen for 3 to 4 weeks.  Then I will be on the hunt for instructions so I do not waste any Ribs or Salmon or the wife will have me sleeping next to the smoker :)  I have a line on Apple  and Apricot trees for wood so that helps a bit.

You'll be fine with the #1, Hank.  As far as the wood, I hope you know you won't be able to cut wood from the apple & apricot trees and use it to smoke, right?  You can't smoke with green wood.  It will take some time to properly dry the cuttings, so another wood source (like smokinlicious.com) will be necessary.

Yes I knew about green wood Last Oct a black bear broke a friends apple tree and he cut it down for camp fire wood so I have a couple of 18in long by 3 pieces.  Going to Vancouver Island and hope to score Salmon and apricot from Daughter's place, give son-in law a reason to go fishing this summer. ;) ;)

Keep your eye on the SI website. It is pretty common for them to have a special where the cover is free. Especially around holidays like Memorial Day or Father's Day. But I wouldn't be surprised it there was a special sooner.

Still waiting for my Pass Port to come.  But will have to buy a Smokin-It for sure.  Just got back from daughters place with 10lbs of year old Alder, and have 8lbs of Apple wood.  In Green house all drying out. Gone for a week and I did not realize how much I miss checking in on the Forum several times a day.
