Refried beans
Ingredients
• 15oz can Bush’s Black Beans Reduced Sodium (Sodium 15% or less) with juice
• ¾ t chili powder
• ¼ t garlic powder
• ¼ t onion powder
• ¼ t dried cilantro
• 1 T light olive oil
• 1 t lime juice
• 1 T Butter
Preparation
Heat oil in a nonstick pan and then add all ingredients except the butter and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and use a potato masher or a back of a spoon to mash the beans. Once you have half the beans mashed add the butter. Continue to cook until desired consistency; do not mash all the beans.

This is a definite "try!"

This is really good and you have to add the butter, it really makes the beans.

Have you tried this with other types of beans? I like black beans, mixed with others in small doses, but have never had "just" black beans in a dish. What do you think?

If you are not a fan of black bean try pinto beans!

Forgot to answer your question, yes I have used pinto also. But I am a fan of black beans so that is what I normally do!
The trick to really good refried beans is the grease or in my recipe, butter!

Oh yeah! When we get the canned stuff (yuk), I have to beg my wife not buy the "fat free" refried beans - double Yuk! Definitely going to try these!

Man, those look good! I was gonna make a batch Saturday, but ended up pulling my lower back doing something I shouldn't have - yikes! I even bought the supplies! Hopefully, a batch of those are on the menu next weekend!! ???

Tony,
Sorry about your back, nothing worse than having to move slow.
Try the beans, you will notice I added some cheese!

I know.....
I said forget the canned stuff, but if you don't have time and looking for some great tasting beans give Bush's Cocina Latina beans a try.
Cocina Latina Frijoles Negros Machacados, are smashed black beans prepared like traditional family recipes with flavorful ingredients such as poblano chiles and bacon.
Open can, add to a small sauce pan, add 1 T butter and heat.

Thanks Greg! Getting better, but still a little slow. :( I'm even gonna try it with the black beans, per your recommendation! ;D Gonna leave out the cilantro, though - wifey and I, both, don't care for it. Other than that, it's a great looking recipe! Love the cheese on 'em, too!

Weird, Greg, but cilantro has a metallic taste to me. First time I had salsa, with a lot of cilantro in it, (many years ago), I thought someone dropped a tin can lid in the stuff! I later isolated that taste to cilantro! Funny how we all sense flavor differently!
