Smoking-it number 1
« on: January 19, 2014, 01:53:09 PM »
My smoker is about two months old now. Love it and this forum. We are retired and live in a south Fl condo most of the year and spend the summer in a 5th wheel RV in PA.

3 smokes so far, two butts and one chicken. Turkey breast is on the schedule for the next smoke.

Thanks to all for all the information and recipes on this site...

Thanks DM,
Yes, all is good with the #1. I noticed some smoke leaking from the top right door corner but I read on here that it is somewhat normal and I'm not concerned.

My user ID got confusing so I re-registered here as 1stlink.. Good to be here...

Yep, a little smoke around the door will go away.  It's a reminder to use it more. ;)

How many smokes before it stops seeping through the front?

Guess it depends on the smoker, or how tight the door fits.  My #1 never did it, but the #2 I'm testing does a little.  I guess we need feedback from those who've had a problem with it initially.

Understood. There is something that is the same concept but with a stick burner underneath. It's all stainless version cost $5000 but the only thing I recall it had to have a better seal was a thin layer of welder/furnace sealer. It was simply glued in and compressed tight and deformed a ton.... Reminded me exactly of what is on my gas fireplace.

I know it's strongly discouraged but it seems like a cheap enough mod if done properly would seal things up tight. I'm hopeful come summer time that thought is just a distant thought as everything is sealed up nice on my #3.

Until then I'm not honking with it because it leaks only a smidge the first 30 minutes or so.
