I found this site for red wood oak dowels. Also had other varieties of woods.

$4.42 FOR 12" OF HICKORY, and a couple others listed seems a bit expensive.. Add shipping.

The site is for use in molding and the wood is actually milled and kiln dried. Probably not the best choice for the smoker.

I just priced a 3 ft piece of oak, $10. but the shipping was $24 for ups ground. A bit too expensive for my blood and then add the klin dried. But, was late when i found this last night and did not do any research.
