I have a six year old #1 that's been living on my outside patio. It's got some unsightly rust on it's exterior I'd like to remove and was curious how to go about it without creating an, "I wish I hadn't done that," moment. The rust isn't deep, rather just superficial. Wish I'd been wiping it down with WD40 from the beginning. Thanks

Stainless steel rusts from iron/carbon steel contamination. So don't use steel wool or a wire brush unless it is stainless steel too.
Green scotch brite pads work well for surface rust. when done scrubbing, clean with acetone or mineral spirits then use a carnuba paste wax on it.
