Title: Acronyms
Post by: Texan in Tulsa on February 12, 2016, 11:52:59 AM
Being a newbie to the craft of smoking meats, I see a lot of acronyms used on the forum. A few I have figured out over time, but others I am still clueless when I see them.

Is there a list of smoking acronyms anywhere on the forum that I could reference?

I do not remember seeing such a list. But, I think it is a good idea. If you have a few of them that you have found, I would start a list and send it to Tony in a PM and he could create a topic in the most appropriate section. Then this list could periodically be updated as needed.

Not a bad idea, Andy!  But, the best solution is to stop using acronyms, and speak plain English!!  I try to write-out acronyms, to avoid confusion like you're talking about.  I will frequently use some, though, like "BBQ" for Bar-Be-Que, and "IT" for Internal Temperature.  Other than that, I don't think I use a lot of acronyms (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

SOP, here at the FP, should be to speak in PE, so ECU!  (Standard operating procedure, here at the Forum Pages, should be to speak in Plain English, so Everyone Can Understand!!) ;)

TTYL! ;D

p.s. - let us know if you run across one you don't understand!

p.p.s.  - If we're using enough acronyms that we need a "Guide to Acronyms," we're using too many acronyms!!

Dave....that is a great list.

There were a few that I was curious about so I did Google search of bbq acronyms. Found a great list on thesmokering.com that addressed most of those I had seen on the SI forum.

You might want to consider joining the Society to Ban the Use of TLAs.
