Holiday Meal plans?
« on: December 17, 2021, 09:29:46 AM »
Just about a week out until the holiday. What does everyone have planned for their meals? Always a fun week to see what everyone is cooking/smoking. Doesn’t have to be smoked, anything goes here! Let’s hear about it!

For us, thinking a rib roast if we can find one. Monday I’ll be going to Costco to see what I can find. May go to a few of the smaller spots in the area as well, one being a locally sourced butcher to store front shop if I don’t find anything at Costco. Sides for the rib roast, Hasselback Potato Gratin and some type of veg. I will smoke the rib roast in the 3D, as it always turns out wonderful this way! And, it’s been a while since I’ve made cheesecake, so going to make a NY style cheesecake for dessert.

Christmas Eve is always fun, as I make carne adovada and posole to go with the various apps the rest of the family makes. My parent’s usually make flautas and taquitos. It ends up being two days of eat eat eat :)

What are you cooking?

I've wanted to cook a rib roast for a while now. That ought to be really good! One of these days...

I'm gonna do a "twice smoked" spiral cut ham with a hash brown potato casserole, glazed carrots, sweet potato's, and cranberry sauce just because. Apple pie with ice cream for dessert!

I've also wondered how it would be to smoke that already cooked spiral cut ham instead of just throwing it in the oven. After reading posts here, it sounds like the right way to go.

That sounds great, Clay! I have not done a ham in the 3D, but I have done a ham on my Weber Kettle and it was excellent. My mom found a recipe that was a Dr. Pepper Glazed ham, turned out great! So I would imagine a smoked ham would be wonderful!

Enjoy that cook!

Prime Rib is our go to for Christmas. Last year was the first time I had smoked it in several years but it was my first Christmas with my 3DW so had I to do it.
It turned out great so I am going with it again this year. I’m also smoking some beef morrow bones with toast points which is a decadent treat. I’m also making garlic mashed potatoes with cream and butter. My wife and sister handle the other sides which include corn pudding, fresh sweet potato casserole with pecans, roasted brussel sprouts with bacon, green beans almondine and a spread of desserts. Homemade cloverleaf rolls top it all off with a long nap afterwards. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
