Sticker said to use the meat by May 10th?
« on: May 13, 2020, 02:53:36 PM »
Got some Boston Butts last Thursday May 7th and did not pay attention to the use by date.  3 of the four say by the 20th, but one said by the 10th.  I have had these in the fridge since then so I believe they would be ok.

Advice and or suggestions on this please.

If they smell fine I’d use them, but that’s just me.

Open the expired one and give it the smell test, gassy, rotten egg, you will know.  If OK, then vac seal.  (if you need a comparison and have a vac sealer, open one of the others for smell comparison). If no vac, use clear wrap (I use stretch rite) and wrap tightly.  Then wrap a second time 90 degrees off from the way you wrapped earlier.  Make sure you squeeze out all air on both wraps, place in zip lock or foil wrap, label and date, then freeze till ready for use.  I have had to do that more times than I can remember.  Never had a problem.  If you are still concerned, just toss it.
