Racks dishwasher safe?
« on: March 01, 2013, 07:52:20 PM »
Are the racks dishwasher safe. Im lazy so can I put the racks in the dishwasher? LOL I have the regular, fish and coldplate racks. I know that the coldplate can't but not sure about the rest.

The regular racks are described as stainless steel so I would say yes.  I spray mine with oil (PAM) so I can remove meat with little to no tearing and then wash in sink by hand.  I cannot say for the other racks.

The racks are definitely dishwasher safe.  I run them through the dishwasher after most smokes.

FYI, the drip pan is also safe to run through the dishwasher.

Good idea on the PAM, I need to try that.  I have never used the dishwasher; I take the racks out after the smoke, submerge in soapy water for a few minutes, and then use a bit of crumpled up HD foil and run that up and down each wire on the rack...cleans up quickly!

I have used non-stick cooking spray as well.  It definitely helps in the clean-up process.  I also used a non-scratch scouring pad that will take off any residual leftovers.  I will try the foil before the scouring pad next smoke. I leave the drip pan uncovered, but I guess you could cover with some foil.

Another neat trick is to spray degreaser on them and then put them in 30 gal garbage bags to let the stuff penetrate the baked on goodness.  After a few hours, remove them and then a rinse and scrub does the trick.

They are so easy to clean, soak in hot water with dish soap, a 3M scouring pad and done.  If they are really messed up, substitute the dish soap for dishwasher detergent.  Put on rubber gloves when using dishwasher detergent as this is really caustic.  Rinse well and you are ready to go. :)
