3 won't turn on
« on: June 30, 2018, 04:21:10 PM »
Called Steve and he suggested checking the power wire connections under the heat shrink tubing. Did that, no luck. Thinking it was the thermostat I wired around it. No luck. The power light bulb broke off so I cut it out and spliced the wires. No luck.
Continuity checks OK, which makes me think that it could not be the element, but I am running out of options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brian, I know you checked continuity but did you check to see if voltage was making it from the mains/outlet to the controller and then out from the controller to the light (broken) and to the heating element? If power is getting to the controller but not out, I suspect the controller is bad.

Sorry, but what controller? It is wired pretty much directly to the heating element. I am just trying to get it to turn on without the Auber. I really am now thinking it has to be the heating element.

That would be your temperature controller, going from OFF to whatever temperature you set the smoker to.

I bypassed that. One side of the power cord is going straight to the element and I unhooked the wires from the thermostat (controller) and hooked them together so they are essentially going straight to the element.
