Is smokin.it.info@gmail.com still a valid address?
« on: November 11, 2016, 09:04:48 AM »
Hi,

Is the email address smokin.it.info@gmail.com still valid? I've sent two emails 10 days apart requesting help with no replies.

Thanks for any help you can give

Should be, Doug, as far as I know.  I know Steve has been hunting a lot lately.  ;)   Text him at 260-417-9951.

Anything I can help with?

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the response. Firstly let me say that I've never had any
problems with Steve getting back in touch when sent emails so
this is unusual for him and I was concerned.

Here is the email I sent Steve:

Early this year I purchased a Stephanie cart to put my #3 at a more comfortable
working height. Initially I was pleased with the cart but was puzzled with the wheel
layout. The front wheels are the movable ones and the rear wheels are the fixed ones.

This is all fine except that the fixed wheels are fixed in the perpendicular position to the
the front movable wheels and thus will not “follow” the front wheels. This effectively limits
the smoker to only being moved left and right when facing the front doors. The wheels that
came on the smoker were positioned correctly to allow the fixed wheels to follow the
movable front wheels thus giving maximum maneuverability.

I’m finding it very difficult to move my smoker from its storage position to where
I setup to smoke. Can this wheel alignment issue be resolved?

Also the door on the Stephanie cabinet no longer latches. it closes fully however the
magnet isn’t holding it shut. Can this issue be resolved?

Thanks for listening Tony,

Doug

Doug, have you flipped the cart to see how the stationary wheels are mounted?  I would think that you should be able to unscrew them and turn them 90 degrees and re-mount.

On the door, I would consider adding a hasp or a turn latch in lieu of a weak magnet.  Look at one of the big box stores in the cabinet latch & pull section.

Dave,

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought rotating the wheels first thing. However as they use a rectangular mounting bolt pattern that can't be done.
I had thought about switching it so that the fixed wheels were on one "side" and movable wheels on the other "side"
but the bolt hole  pattern isn't the same. In other words they won't attach.

I'd rather not try and drill holes in stainless steel to mount a hasp of some sort. I guess I could try and knock out the
existing magnet and maybe epoxy a much stronger one in it's place.

Thanks for the info, Doug!  I don't have this cart, so these problems are new to me.  It may be that he mounted the wheels that way because the smoker has handles on the sides, so it was meant to be pulled that direction.  As far as the latch goes, I don't know because I haven't seen it, but Dave's suggestion may be the best.  I've forwarded this to Steve, but still try and text him.

Tony,

Thank you for the reply. I'm not trying to be argumentative here but the logic
of "designed that way" is in direct contradiction to the original design of the smoker in which
the wheels were attached in what I consider a normal fashion.

Can you imaging giving your kid a little red wagon in which the back wheels were
fixed in perpendicular opposition to the front steering wheels? It would go nowhere fast.

I'll wait until I hear back on my emails from Steve. Not going to bother him if he's
hunting.

Again thanks for your help and suggestions.

Doug, as I said... I don't have this cart, but was only trying to suggest a rationale.  The smoker's handles are on the sides, so it's not really that illogical.  I would drag it around by the handle, sideways, and wouldn't think twice about it; 6 of one, half-dozen of the other, so long as it rolls!  No one else has mentioned this "problem."  Hope it works out for you!

It does look like from the picture that the wheels were installed wrong.  Take a swivel wheel from one corner and swap it with the stationary wheel from the opposite corner.

I think Dave's solution could work.

Tony, Dave, Gregg,

Steve called me this morning and is sending out a set of movable wheels.
I should be able to move it anyway I want now  ;)

As usual excellent customer service. Thanks Steve!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

This sounds like an even better solution.

Way to go Steve!

Try my suggestion first. 4 swiveling wheels can be a PITA when they all try to go different directions at the same time.

+1!  That sucker will be a wobbly-goblin in the wind, unless they all lock!
