Rust! Rust!
« on: March 01, 2016, 10:21:13 AM »
OK. So I've got a cover for my #2 and those that have likewise know, the cover does not completely cover the lower shelf and lower parts of the legs.  In the area that doesn't get covered, I'm seeing the start of rust.  We love this smoker, but I'm bummed out by this discovery.  Is anybody else having this problem?  I think I'll call Smokin-It to see what I can learn.  Bummer . . . .

Tony did some pretty paint on his smoker that you might be able to incorporate into the lower half / legs.

Steve, it's bound to happen, even with stainless steel, in an environment like yours.  Just use a little 0000 steel wool with CLR; it'll clean it right up.  It's just surface rust.  Stainless steel is rust resistant, not rust-proof.  It is still steel.

I've been away for a while, so just getting back to this.  I appreciate your comments, guys.  I did call Steve at Smokin-It and he pretty much said the same thing as Tony.  Thanks, guys!!

It is called "Stainless" not "Stainproof", you can try keeping it whipped down with WD40.
