Vaughn Wood Products
« on: January 17, 2016, 06:37:16 PM »
I am curious to know if anyone has ever ordered wood from this company? I have researched their site and it seems to be very comparable to Smokinlicious that so many on here use. They a located in Osceola, Missouri and shipping is included and the prices seem to be pretty comparable with Smokinlicious. I only bring this up because I like to smoke with Pecan a lot and Smokinlicious does not offer Pecan. They also offer a few different varieties not offered by Smokinlicious. I am not trying to start a debate on which company is better. I am just merely looking to see if anyone else has ever tried them. http://www.vaughnwoodproducts.com/home.html

Hi Jimmy, thanks for the info!  I noticed on their site it says their wood is kiln dried.  I don't know what moisture content they dry to but they may be more a wood source for grilling.  It would be good to know what the moisture content is and you are right the prices are close to Smokinlicious prices.

I purchased some good apple chunks here and they also have pecan chunks:

Carl, good point. Being kiln dried it may be too dry for smoking with.

It would be worth sending them an email or a call to see what the moisture content of their woods are.

After several phone calls that were never answered, I just received an email from Vaughn Wood Products, I'll not use their woods in my SI 3D smoker, here's their response about their woods moisture content:

All our products are dried to 7 to 9 percent.
However during storing and shelf time it can rise
back up some over time since wood acts like a
sponge

Carl, I got the same response. Too dry ,in my opinion, to use in our smokers without having combustion issues.

No thanks for me, too.  Keep those sources coming, though!  Never hurts to check new ones out!
