I don't smoke in the rain very often, but occasionally some rain will show up unexpectedly. I don't cover the knob in these cases, but I do cover the hole on the top of the smoker with a offset tin pan...I cut a hole in the bottom of the pan, but cover the hole with the other end of the pan, so the smoke comes out of the SI top hole and then gets re-directed to the open hole on the tin pan (not sure if this makes sense, but it works). I also cover my Maverick therm with a baggie.
