Will 3 Turkey Breast work out ok on my #2??
« on: November 26, 2015, 07:57:16 AM »
3 Turkey Breast on the Same Rack?  I have done 2 before but never 3 put on the same rack.  I have a #2 and was planning on putting one on bottom rack and then 2 on top of that one, but when the time came, they would not fit.  I have probes in all three of them.  Any advice or suggestions?

I would think you would be ok. What temperature are you smoking at? I smoke my turkey breasts at 255.
My gut tells me the top birds may finish a bit sooner than the lower bird.

Thanks Ed, I had to put them all 3 on the same rack, didn't want to do this, but they wouldn't fit otherwise.  Temp is set at 255, but thinking of lowering it to 225 to slow down the cooking.  I put them on at 6:30 cst, and they are already up to 160, not sure about my probes.  Got two different types, Maverick and Thermoworks and both of them are reading the same?  I have a couple of Gourmet Food Thermometer instant stick also and will be checking them.

Usually it has took 2 of them around 4 hours to get done, so not understanding how 3 of them can get done much quicker??

Whew, went and repositioned the probes and got different temps.  they are at 130 now versus 160.  Was worried about my smoker for a minute there.  Probed them with 2 different instant Thermometer and they were showing 130 so I figured out I had the probes almost on the bone.

Figure about 4 hours. Mine is 2 hours in and the temp is 132.

Thanks Ed, mine is at the 3 hours point, temps are 156, 158 and 154.  Turned the temp down to 225 to ensure they get done through and through.  I have done 3 sets of 2 before and they were done in 4 hours, never done 3 at one time.  Just have to remember about the correct place to put the probe for the temp next time.

All three of mine were ready at the 3 1/2 hour mark.  Thought they would take longer with three of them, but used the instant probe just to make sure they were done.

Good news, Rick!  Sounds like they were right on time!  Any multiple hunks of meat cook as a single, as long as there's good room between them.  Happy Thanksgiving!
