#2 extension cord
« on: January 11, 2015, 02:30:19 PM »
Ok to use or not on a #2.  I got a perm base at auction and need to run 6-8 foot in addition to one on smoker.

OK or nope?

Cord specs to look for ?

I searched and didn’t see see too much negative.

Thanks

I use a 50' 12/3 contractor-grade cord with no problems.  Stay away from 14/3 unless it's like 10', imo.

I agree with Tony that a 10 foot 14 gage would not be a problem.

14 gage wire is rated at: 15 amps, 1800 watts @ 120 volts which will easily carry the load of a #2.
Length is another consideration because of voltage drop. Tony's 12/3 is super imho..

12/3 worked perfect.  Thanks for the info.  Found a 10" on ebay.  Tricky to find those under 50".
