Effective water pan on my model 4

I tried this yesterday with great results. On my model 4, the wood box is wide enough to offer some support so I positioned a rack on the lid. There is a lip on the back wall, photo #2, that pins the rack and prevents teetering. Only my second smoke in this unit but the evaporation of the water pan was much better than smoker floor.

That should work perfect, Dave! Having the pan right on top of the smoke box should be better at capturing heat than beside it.

That's what I do. I use a rectangular pan. Works great.
