I would recommend a Boston Butt. It is a super easy smoke and really gives you a feel for your new smoker. Tony has a good write-up with his Butt brine (highly recommended) in the following post:

Thanks for the tip but I'm the previous owner of a #1 and have brined/smoked butts in it using Tony's advice, etc...

I have Ribs, Turkey and a Butt ready to go and it will probably be the Butt   ;)

Good old Steve has already sent tracking number.. I see he no longer uses FedEx but hopefully UPS will be as efficient.  ???

I've always had really good luck with UPS. I doubt you'll have any problems. None of them are perfect and will occasionally damage an item. But, when you consider the amount of packages they deliver, I think they all do a pretty good job.

Ha ha, Nope.. not an expert and far from it but I'm not a total newbie either.. lol

I will continue soaking up smoking lessons from you and the others here that have far more experience. Everyone here has always been very helpful.
