Smoking basket for nuts
« on: September 08, 2014, 03:47:00 PM »
I'm thinking about trying to make my own smoked almonds or other nuts.  What container do you use that will hold the nuts without falling through the holes yet let the smoke through?

I considered the seafood rack here but since it doesn't have sides that doesn't seem like a good solution.  I see a promising rack on amazon:  "Stok SIS3050 Stainless Steel Grilling Basket"  Has anyone used one of these?

Any other suggestions?

That basket looks great!  I think it would be perfect for nuts.  Looks like the mesh is smaller, which would be better than the seafood shelf for small items.  A couple of those would do a lot of nuts or sunflower seeds!  That would give you 4 halves, I suppose (wouldn't need them closed).

I ended up finding a basket I already had which seems to work pretty well.  Here is the equivalent on amazon:

I have a grilling basket much like the pic here.  It is enameled.  Will that work in the smoker?

Wess, enameled shouldn't matter at all.  Should work just fine.
