Hello, I'm Dave from eastern PA.
I had an MES for quite a few years. After struggling with either not getting up to temp or the huge temp swings, I broke down and sold the MES on Craigslist.
I wanted something small that was easy to store and take with me when I go to my buddy's cabin. The #1 fit the description as I very rarely make over 3 racks of ribs or a single shoulder.
I knew right away that I was going to install a rocker switch for using an Auber, so I modified the smoker before seasoning it. I also installed a permanent temp probe and toggle switch with a protective cover.
When the Auber is on, the toggle switch cover is open, when I take it to my buddy's cabin, I'll leave the Auber at home and the cover will stay in place protecting the switch.
I'll be smoking a shoulder this weekend, but I'm dying to do brisket (I never felt comfortable spending the money on a brisket with the unreliable MES).
Cheers

Welcome Dave from SE Arizona. Several owners of SI have gone the modification route to be able to switch between analog and the Auber. Enjoy your first smoke. So simple!
