the new faceplate looks cool. I ordered a number 3 on 5/11 that is backordered, hopefully it will have the new faceplate.

I just got a new #3 and I too thought the faceplate looked great.  I looked so close at it that I saw the plastic covering on it.  Thinking that this was just a shipping covering I pulled the thin plastic covering off!   Big mistake it took a lot of the lettering and paint with it.  Not sure if this was suspose to happen but it sure did not help the looks of it any!  Anyone else have this happen?

Personally I left the plastic on it.  Based on your experience, perhaps Steve should consider including a mention to not remove the plastic in the manual.

I pulled the plastic off mine, just like I do with any other packing...no problems.  Contact Steve - he'll probably send you a new faceplate.  It should not have done that.

I peeled my plastic off (old style plate) and it peeled up the silk screening....sad day.

Still no word on this? I would at least like to put a new face on mine since it is now getting really hard to read.

How would you install it? With glue?

I was curious about that too.

I am happy to hear that they took care of you and were able to send you a new plate. Seems like a minor thing, but something that would bug my analytical head to have to look at the damaged one every time I would use it.

I think your best bet would a 3M spray adhesive.  Liquid nails would work but you would never be able to replace it again.

Benjammn can confirm, but I think they come adhesive-backed.

So I just replaced it right now. The only hard part was removing the lamp but that wasn't really that bad.
Yes they use 3M adhesive tape. Messy getting off the old stuff but Acetone made quick work of it.
One super tiny little thing is that the lamp hole isn't punched in the tape, but easy to just cut out.
Huge difference in old to new.

Made me feel all tingly inside, like I got it brand new all over again. LOL

Not really a hard thing to do if you have some basic tools laying around.

UPDATE: unfortunately somehow I screwed up the light during the removal. Most likely that I pulled the leads apart and need to take the covers off to fix it.

I know this is a very old post but I'm new to the forum along with a new model 1.  I wish the numbers were white like the off/on letters.  The white letters are much easier to read in lower light conditions.

I wonder how much a new face place costs...  the plate on my #2 has lost a lot of its printing around the rheostat.  :(    I suppose it's technically still under warranty, but is that a warranty item?

I wish the temperature numbers and markers were embossed in the plate, not just silkscreened on.  Mine, too, are getting almost illegible, and I was thinking of either getting a new plate or just using my engraving pen and marking where the settings are (the less pretty option, but easier).

Check with Steve.

I sent him an email today...  I'll report back on whether it's considered a warranty item.

It's apparently covered by the warranty and a new one is being sent to me.  Another example of exemplary support!
