I made an exhaust for my sm2 and so far I'm very pleased. I have used this mod twice on rainy days w/ no issues.

Very nice! I am smoking today in the garage with the smoker by the garage door. Luckily, the wind is blowing out so the smoke rolls out of the garage. I like your solution!

Thanks swthorpe! I came up w/ this mod due to wanting smoked foods on rainy days and I didn't want to get my smoker wet. The first time I used it I didn't get any smoke in the garage and this smoke I got a little smoke but not bad at all. After the first hour and a half there isn't ant any smoke at all.

Ok, this is interesting........but how do you get probes into the smoker? I'm quite intrigued at this idea, although a small amount of smoke comes over/out my door too during the smoking process

I ran the probes through the top hole just like you would normally then put the 4" exhaust hose w/ square adapter plate over the hole and tape down w/ high temp tape. It's very simple but works really well. I'll attach a pic of how it looks from outside the window.

Great idea. Do you need a fan in the exhaust hose, or is there enough natural draw?

I ran a fan for an hour for the last smoke but probably didn't need to. I was thinking about using a small fan in the end of the exhaust tube but it's really not necessary. The only other issue I have is the steam building up and running down around the top of the smoker but a dish towel takes care of that.

This is a pretty awesome idea. I keep my smoker on the side porch, so I don't have to worry about rain too much, but I have thought about putting the smoker in the basement and running it into the chimney down there. Running it inside of the house though, I think I would need something that totally enclosed the smoker and will catch all of the smoke that comes out of the door.

I get the same steam/condensation when I use my Jerky Dryer. Just wipe up with a towel and I am good to go.

My steam builds on the front lip of the top and runs down my door. I've started using foam backer rod in the gap between the top of the door and the lip of the top.

Dave, does the foam backer rod over the gap where the door closes (upper part) keep all the smoke directed out of the top vent that you made? I'm trying to get this set up so I can leave my vehicle in the garage and exhaust ALL smoke out of the nearest window...I surely don't want to be hungry every time I get in my Jeep. Also, would an inline 40 CFM fan be too much "pull" and affect the cook?
Maybe put it right at the window, at the end of the 4 inch duct run?

Learning from jlightning, I followed his que and smoked my #2 in the pole barn. 25 degrees outside but nice and cozy in the shop smokin away. I attached the 4" clear vinyl vent to the smoker with a roof vent attachment. Later in the smoke when the moisture picked up, it was condensating and the vent line started to sag due to the moisture which actually kept the smoker dry while the 4" vent filled up with water. I probably could have removed the vent after the smoke and before the moisture kicked in. Regardless it worked great.

Nice innovation Charlie!
