First things first....thanks to Jimmy, Issac and Tony for sharing their experiences. They were helpful in generating ideas for this one.
I used the 24x36" blue cart from Harbor Freight with the top shelf assembled up side down. Then I cut a 3/4" panel to 18x24 inches, applied a cedar weatherproofing finish and then centered the smoker and fastened it to the panel with cap screws (counter bored) The panel was then attached to the cart with 4 1/4" diameter clevis pins. This approach makes getting the smoker under cover a snap.
I also made a 2nd panel of the same size to use as a general work area and picked up a couple of cutting boards that are shared between the smoker and grill.

Had an idea for you cart guys. Take a look at the thrift stores or Goodwill for a nightstand or small dresser that would fit on the bottom shelf and you'd have doors or drawers for some storage.

Good idea Dave....you and I must be thinking alike! Every time I look at it I think....what a waste of space. With out measuring and crunching the numbers there has to be just under 12 cubic feet of space a lot of which is going to waste and there has to be a better way to utilize it.

Note of caution!
I have had the cart for about 5 months and it has developed peeling paint. I'm not sure it was just the luck of the draw or due to the fact that the cart and smoker have remained out doors....covered when not in use. It is also relatively close to a pool and may be impacted by the chlorine as well as salt air from the Atlantic. There is also some blistering on the upper left from the peeling. :(

No peel on mine yet, Al, but it lives on a covered porch. Outdoor keepers will appreciate you letting us know!

Couple of questions (because I am getting tired of getting down on the ground to load my smoker).
How top heavy is this? It looks like it would be pretty stable with the large cart underneath it.
Do you have some good pics of how you fastened the smoker to the board and how you fastened the board to the cart?

Dan, if you have a standard 3, this setup works good:

This setup is fine for the 3, but too tall for a 3D (can't see the display). I used pre-glued pine panel from Lowe's, and coated it with Plastidip spray...weatherproof, and has held up well.

Thanks! I have a 1, so it will fit easily. After looking at some other mods, I may go with the Craftsman 3 drawer cabinet. It isn't much more expensive than the cart and would give me some drawers for storage.

The 3 drawer cabinets are a great way to go, Dan, and really look nice!
