Post by: old sarge on March 01, 2017, 03:06:57 PM
All smokers now include free shipping. See the home site for details.

I think this is an AWESOME marketing idea and makes it so much easier to compare/contrast the different smokers accurately.

A big thumbs-up to Smokin-It on this change.

I was thinking about getting the cabinet for the #2 and I see it's now $300.  I wonder if this isn't higher than it would have been.

I really want a cabinet, but I don't actually like the one that's available on the site... I don't understand why it has the wide platform on the bottom.  That there is a fixed shelf is also a little off-putting.  At the same time, I've had no luck finding a suitable alternative.

Larry - Just my 2 cents on your concerns, which are very well stated:
The wide platform adds to stability since the smoker will be sitting higher and the penchant for folks to push/maneuver nearly anything and everything on wheels from the top, it is a safety thing. Even Cookshack's cabinet is wider at the bottom (and costs $399 without a shelf) plus shipping.  I have linked to two archived pages that illustrate the retail prices for the cabinet and that Steve has generally sold them as well as the smokers at a sale price.  But like everything, price adjustments have to be made from time to time as material costs material and manufacturing costs go up. So looking at it that way, and ignoring the 'sale price', the increase is not that significant and it includes shipping. All in all, not really a bad deal. Quite a number of people have used rolling tool cabinets, some utility carts, and others have made their own out of wood.  All just personal preference. I hope this helps you and others who may be thinking along the same lines and believe me I mean this as a helpful insight only, not a criticism.

What is weird is that the cart is not wider.  I would love to have a cabinet with the size and features of the cart.  :)  I'm sure you're correct that I'll push it around by grabbing around the top with either one until I nearly dump it.

I've shopped around just enough to know that both the cart and the cabinet are a good price even today, so I don't need/mean to disparage Steve at all.

I've been looking at these options and it's really hard to find something that is the correct size, is going to hold up well outside, and has an affordable price.  I really like the idea of all stainless and would order the cart/cabinet hybrid in a heartbeat.  :)

Thank you for treating my whining so kindly.  :)  There is nothing you have said that is incorrect nor is any of it remotely critical.
