Title: Royal Oak Charcoal
Post by: prudentsmoker on August 30, 2019, 09:15:39 PM
Anyone have experience with Royal Oak charcoal. I have always been a fan of Kingsford, but it looks like Lowes (which has sales on charcoal on Labor Day, Memorial and Independence Day) has a much better price on Royal Oak.

Thanks in advance.

I know a lot of people that use Royal Oak and they love the flavor better than Kingsford, plus it burns longer.

I wish I could talk personal experience on RO, but I bought a haul of KBB on one of th holidays so have only been using that. But, like above, I’ve read it runs longer.

Is it regular briquettes or lump? I may have to go buy a bag to try.

I have used it and had good results with it. I use the lump charcoal in my barrel smoker and never had any issues with it. Lights easy and burns steady . I usually find some good deals on it at the big stores towards the end of the season.

Thanks for all the responses. I did break down and buy the Royal Oak and don't think I will be going back to Kingsford for all the reasons listed. It looks like according to my thermometer in the lid it runs about 50 degrees hotter and at only $4/bag (today is the last day) you can't beat it!

One of the big name stores around here sells the lump in 2 bag specials. I always stock up for the winter time smoking.
