Smokinlicious Chunks, How Big?

Hi all, based on alot of good reviews of Smokinlicious I bought a box of Ash, Maple & hickory.  I see they chunks are about 2"x2"X4", what I'm wondering is if these are too big for the SI2?  Should they be cut down first (2x1x4, or 2x2x2)?  Going to give them a try tomorrow on some spare ribs, hope there really is a difference between these and the big-box wood I've been using.

Hi Chuck, Smokinlicious wood is an excellent choice and yes you will most likely need to split your chunks into smaller pieces. I use a hatchet & hammer but some use a hand held chisel available at Home Depot etc. with a large blade. A scale is needed to weigh your pieces.

Gotcha, I'll get out the hatch and split a few in half.  We want to keep it to 4oz or less in the SI2 correct?

It’s nice to split them up and mix various types for your smoke as well. That’s where the chisel is nice to have. Have fun!

It's a nice product. The double fillets are about 2" square by 3" long. They seem to be done by hand, so they vary a little bit. I usually pop them in two with a hatchet or screw driver/hammer. The website isn't the easiest to navigate, but once you get it figured out it gets the job done.

Wow, what a difference.  THe Smokinlicious wood didnt ignite or burn to ash like the cheap wood.  They were nice chunks of charcoal when the cook was done.  I did foil half the bottom of the smoker tray and put in the chip guard, but alot of the credit goes to the wood. 

I just got a box of the Bourbon/Merlot wood from Fruita-wood.  Cant wait to try that on a pork loin Sunday!
