Sounds good, Steve! Just curious - have you ever tried Crystal hot sauce instead of Tabasco? I like the flavor better, and it's about the same heat. Not quite as "vinegarie" as Tabasco.

No I have not; however I am open to anything. Is "Crystal" the brand name?

Baumer foods out of Louisiana makes Crystal Hot sauce. Its not as harsh as Tabasco. Both are good Crystal is smoother on the pallet. I cook with both but use Crystal directly as a condiment more than Tabasco. Its good.

Thanks!!!
I will look in the grocery store.

I'll have to give this a whirl, being from Georgia and all, lol.
I have to tell you though, Mustard based BBQ sauce is more of a South Carolina dealio. In Jawja, we mostly do the Vinegar based sauces that are ketchup/tomato based like a Western NC style (Piedmont to be exact). I typically don't do the mustard BBQ sauces but this one sounds good! I am going to make a batch and I'll post my (not so) expert opinion :P

Tony,
I have never been a fan of Tabasco, I will see if I can find the Crystal and give it a try. For hot sauces I like Cholula Hot Sauce, they have several kinds.

Cholula's good too, Greg. Crystal just has a flavor that suits me much better than Tabasco.

I will be in New Orleans in June, so if I don't have a chance before then to try crystal I will then!
Thanks Greg

Looks like a great recipe to try. Crystal is really good. Also very cheap. I try to avoid hot sauces because they all have lots of flavor that detracts from the main taste in my opinion. So I use hot pepper flakes instead.

I do too. I actually never put it directly on food - just in a recipe. And, "all things in moderation!" The right sauce can add a great flavor profile to a marinade, brine or injection - but in the right proportion!

Just another twist on the hot sauce opinion,,, Just for the record I don't like Tabasco,Texas Pete for me,, with that being said I love the new Chipotle Tabasco,, It has nice heat with a smokey flavor,,, I think you might be able to use this instead of the liquid smoke and hot sauce...
Just a thought...

I really like mustard based sauces, and I like the addition of Worcestershire and butter to this one. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for posting.

I use this on just about everything sliced. Pork, meatloaf, lunch meat. Worth a try if you are in the area to pick it up.

I am in the Midwest this week and low and behold they had crystal in the grocery store. Even better they are discontinuing it at the store, so I bought a 6 oz bottle for .37 cents. I plan to sample tomorrow and if I like it buy up the rest and take back home!

Surprised you can't get it in FL Greg. I see it everywhere, including Walmart. It is a big seller and always available. Be careful when letting any of these bottled sauces stay on the shelf to long. They do go bad. See if there is a date on them also.
