Greetings from NC
« on: September 03, 2022, 12:57:42 PM »
Hello all, I have been "trying" to smoke on a Masterbuilt gas smoker for years. I was was playing the modification game without great success. Started out adding a needle valve, bought a Smoke Daddy. and built an outer skin to help with insulation. I was still frustrated with the lack of control and results. This year I started researching a PID driving a gas solenoid. Then last week the boss said to stop wasting money on that cheap box and get a real smoker, Yea!

So here I am, I just ordered the #2 analog with the cart on the Labor Day special. I chose the #2 since most of my smoking has been a single flat or small whole packer, a pork butt, or a chicken for small crowds.  I will have it delivered next Tuesday. I figure I can always modify it with a PID in the future if I want to upgrade. Really looking forward to next week! I'll keep you all posted.

Welcome to the forum and to the joy of having a Smokin-It.  I am very happy with my #3.  Bought it with the intention of adding a PID too.  But 3 years later, don't feel I need a PID now.

Welcome from central TX! I love my #2, just the right size for me, and I added an Auber PID after a year or so.

Hi Bill and welcome to the forum. Lots of good info here. I have a couple of #3s and also a couple of Aubers that I bought at the same time. My thought would be to wait awhile and see if you really need a PID. Most of the time I do not use the Aubers.
