Do his recipes have a lot of sugar in them?  I have thought about buying the recipes, but for health reasons avoid sugar, which knocks out most rubs and sauces.

It also has chili powder in it, which I'm not a fan of in my rubs.  After buying numerous bottles of rubs and finding out after the fact that they had stuff in them I didn't like or want, I've been trained to read the micro print list of ingredients.

Same way with MSG, Dave - it's in a lot of store-bought rubs, too.  I have to watch for that one; triggers migraines in the wife!

I too liked Jeff's recipes. I personally think the cost it worth it. After all, he is hosting a website with over 1 million posts. I will say this, I thought Aldi's ketchup works better than Heinz. Just my 2 cents worth.

We only use Aldi ketchup and mustard now.

Yeah, I found out the hard way that I've gotta watch out for MSG in rubs too - it makes my heart go crazy (and not in a good way).  That's why I prefer to make my own, but sometimes, a friend gets me a bottle of rub, so I feel obliged to smoke something for them with it.

I would try memphis dust, no chili powder!

Is Jeff's recipe still a go to for anyone? It's been a while since this post was made and I'm wondering if there is rubs and sauces that are equal or better.

Tim, I like jeff’s bbq sauce. It has a nice kick, goes with almost anything.  I have to dust off thr rubs and make a batch. I found a rub from Jeffs book, big bald rub, and its really good.

Hi have been using both the rub and sauce for several years and really like it. I use it on many things but especially on pork and chicken. Pulled chicken with his rub and sauce is awesome!
There is a lot of stuff out there but for $18 or whatever it was, it has more than paid for itself.
Glendale, AZ 8 months of the year and then 4 months where ever the fish are biting best, usually along the Columbia River in Oregon.
I eat, therefore I hunt and fish! Hopefully I will learn to smoke some of it!

I see that he has it on Amazon now. I wouldn't imagine that he'll be selling a ton of it @ $10.00 for 1 container of rub and $14.00 for a bottle of sauce.  :o

Saw that, I think the $20 bucks for two rub recipe and the sauce recipe is a steal. Real good web site. Jeff will even email the recipes if you lost them.

Jeff's stuff is good. I modified his BBQ sauce recipe and have people asking if I'll sell them some ;-)

How spicy is Jeff's rub?  My little one doesn't like spice so I'm searching for options that provide flavor without too much spice.  OTOH, if I make it spicy that means more for me ha.

It's really not very spicy at all. He has provisions in the recipe if you want essentially no spicyness.
