« on: July 07, 2015, 06:17:06 PM »

I'm looking to upgrade to a good remote thermometer with multiple probes.

iGril2 or one of the Maverick models?? Why?

Opinions/experience please

Thanks in advance

Travis,

I use the Maverick 733 and like how it works. You can buy extra probes and so far the unit has been worry free. When the 735 came out (Bluetooth) I gave it a try and sent back. I have also tried 4 other units, from other vendors and right now for me the 733 is the right fit.

The iGril2 you are looking at is also Bluetooth, and with poor link up and range with my Maverick 735, I would be Leary....

If you are an Amazon Prime member, heck order them both try them and then send the other back.

I had my Bose Bluetooth speaker playing in the kitchen the other day, with my phone in my pocket. As I walked towards the front door, the music stopped. Walked back towards the kitchen, and I heard the speaker re-link to the phone and start playing music again.

Point being, this was through 3 rooms that have a clear line of sight. No walls in the way. Would I trust a Bluetooth thermometer that's outside on the smoker to be able to communicate with my phone? Nope. If it were wifi, I'd buy into it, but the range on Bluetooth isn't far enough.

My 735 works fine from my smoker on the patio to the basement and 1st floor of my house.  No range issues.  If I go to the second floor, I start having connection issues.

They put crappy bluetooth radios in them though...   The bluetooth on my Sena headsets work freaking amazing bike to bike for a surprising long distance including some obstruction around mountains.  Makes passing on the BRP fun.  lol

See the HeaterMeter for another option:

It also works as a PID controller (i.e. Auber).

I use a maverick 733 with no issues so far. I've been eating some good food by monitoring internal temps of the meat. I don't worry about the temp swings in the box. Good luck!
