Marinade injectors.
« on: August 07, 2014, 02:35:23 PM »
Looking to get an injector to inject briskets.

They have the

Deluxe Injector  at a local store for less than 6 bucks, but I don't know how durable it is since it is plastic.

or should I order a Bayou Classic 5011 2-Ounce Stainless-Steel Seasoning Injector with Marinade Needles, it runs about 16 bucks.

Anyone use either of these?

I used the $6 variety @ 1st until it broke but now I use the stainless one in your picture.  Works fine but you need no chunks because it clogs easily.

I use a Kitchenaid injector.  It's well-made, but I dropped it and broke the needle thread area off!  At the time, I couldn't find the stainless model, so I got another Kitchenaid at Wally world.  Next time, I'm getting the stainless model!

I have been using a cheep Bayou Classic for years and never had a problem with it, but  just picked up a stainless one just like you are showing because I want to do a whole hog soon and wanted the longer needle and figured heck I will bite the bullet and get a good one, not like I'm going to stop smoking any time soon..

Bruce-

I would not spend more than $20 for an injector.  I purchased a stainless steel model with two needles from Bed Bath and Beyond for $14.99. It also came with a carrying case.

That's a re-branded version of the Kitchenaid one I have.  It's not stainless; it just has a stainless cover that the plastic syringe goes into.  I found this out when I dropped my first one and broke the threaded tip off.  Great injector - just don't drop it with the needle attached! :o

Havn't used it yet but it is very well made.  As it should be for $109.  It can be purchased for,  i believe it was $68 with 2 needles & no carrying case.  The needles that come with it are 5 1/2" closed tip perforated, 5 1/2" open slant tip, 5 1/2" fine tip needle & a 5 1/2" jumbo size.  As per the picture below, the standard tip is placed inside of the jumbo tip.  Its big! The only plastic on it is the barrel.  It is a "50ml food safe unbreakable polypropylene barrel, and FDA approved rubber O-ring." There is a "unique dial setting which allows a precise amount of marinade to be injected with each squeeze of the handle."  The settings range from 1ml to 5ml per squeeze.  It is made in the USA & all parts can be replaced. 1 year guarantee.  Looks good.

Looks like what we used to inject livestock with.  I wonder if you can get them at farm supply stores.
